Fried Cheese-Stuffed Doritos Bites
Servings: 16–20 bites
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chill Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 5–7 minutes
Total Time: ~1 hour
Ingredients
-
8 oz block of mozzarella or pepper jack cheese (cut into 1-inch cubes)
-
2 cups crushed Doritos (choose your favorite flavor — Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, or Flamin’ Hot)
-
½ cup all-purpose flour
-
2 large eggs, beaten
-
2 tbsp milk or water
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cheese:
-
Cut cheese into small cubes, about 1 inch each.
-
Place on a plate and freeze for 30 minutes — this helps the cheese stay intact while frying.
2. Prepare the Breading Station:
-
Place flour in one shallow bowl.
-
In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
-
Place crushed Doritos in a third bowl.
3. Coat the Cheese Cubes:
-
Remove frozen cheese cubes from the freezer.
-
Dredge each cube in flour, then dip into egg mixture, and finally roll in crushed Doritos until fully coated.
-
For extra crunch, repeat the egg and Doritos coating once more.
4. Fry:
-
Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
-
Fry a few cubes at a time for 30–45 seconds per side, or until golden and crispy.
-
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
5. Serve:
-
Serve immediately while hot and melty inside.
-
Great with dipping sauces like ranch, spicy mayo, salsa, or marinara.
Tips
-
Air fryer method: Spray coated bites lightly with oil and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, until crispy and golden.
-
Use string cheese sticks instead of block cheese for convenience — just cut into smaller pieces.
-
To make them spicier, use Flamin’ Hot Doritos or add chili powder to the crushed chips.
-
Keep cooked bites warm in a 200°F (95°C) oven while finishing the batch.
