🍞 Simple Crockpot Bread Recipe
🧂 Ingredients
-
3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
-
2 tsp instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
-
2 tsp sugar
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
-
2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
🥣 Instructions
-
Activate the yeast (if using active dry):
In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
(If using instant yeast, skip this step and just mix it right in with the flour.) -
Make the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until it comes together, then knead by hand (or with a stand mixer) for about 5–7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.-
If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour, 1 tbsp at a time.
-
-
First rise:
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. -
Shape and line the crockpot:
-
Line your slow cooker with parchment paper (so it doesn’t stick).
-
Gently form the dough into a round loaf and place it inside the crockpot.
-
-
Cook:
-
Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2½ hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C).
-
The top will look pale, but the bottom should be golden brown.
-
-
Optional crisping step:
For a crunchy crust, place the loaf under your oven’s broiler for 2–4 minutes until golden. Watch closely so it doesn’t burn. -
Cool:
Lift out the bread with the parchment paper and let it cool for at least 10–15 minutes before slicing.
🧈 Tips
-
Add 1–2 tbsp of honey or sugar for slightly sweet sandwich bread.
-
Mix in herbs, garlic powder, or cheese for flavor variations.
-
Whole wheat flour can replace up to 1 cup of the white flour.
Would you like a no-knead version (just mix and dump into the crockpot) or a garlic herb version next?
