🦃 Applewood Smoked Turkey Melt with Cranberry Whiskey Glaze

🧀 Ingredients:

For the sandwich:

  • 8 slices of sourdough, ciabatta, or rustic bread

  • 1 ½ lbs applewood smoked turkey (deli-sliced or leftovers)

  • 8 slices sharp white cheddar, Gruyère, or smoked provolone

  • 1–2 tbsp butter (for grilling)

  • Handful of baby arugula or spinach (optional, for a peppery crunch)

  • Optional: caramelized onions for an extra layer of flavor

For the Cranberry Whiskey Glaze:

  • 1 cup cranberry sauce (homemade or whole-berry canned)

  • 2 tbsp whiskey (bourbon works well)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

  • Pinch of cinnamon or allspice (optional)

  • Pinch of salt

🍳 Instructions:

1. Make the Cranberry Whiskey Glaze:

In a small saucepan over medium heat:

  • Combine cranberry sauce, whiskey, brown sugar, vinegar, and a pinch of cinnamon.

  • Stir and simmer for 8–10 minutes until thickened and glossy.

  • Taste and add salt or extra sugar if needed.

  • Let cool slightly — it should be spreadable.

2. Assemble the Sandwiches:

  • Lay out bread slices.

  • On one side, layer:

    • A generous spoonful of cranberry glaze

    • Slices of smoked turkey

    • Cheese

    • Optional: arugula or caramelized onions

  • Top with another slice of bread.

3. Grill the Melts:

  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  • Butter the outsides of the sandwiches.

  • Grill 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and cheese is melted.

4. Serve:

  • Slice in half and serve warm.

  • Optionally drizzle extra cranberry glaze on top or serve as a dipping sauce.

🍷 Pairing & Sides:

  • Great with sweet potato fries, a mixed greens salad, or roasted Brussels sprouts.

  • Pairs beautifully with a cranberry cider, Pinot Noir, or bourbon cocktail.

Want a version with roast chicken instead? Or want to make the cranberry glaze alcohol-free? Just ask!
