Death by Chocolate Dump Cake
Servings: 10–12
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 40–45 minutes
Total Time: ~55 minutes
Ingredients
-
1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate fudge cake mix
-
1 box (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
-
2 cups milk (for pudding)
-
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
-
1½ cups chopped chocolate bars or chunks (optional but recommended)
-
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
-
Optional toppings: whipped cream, chocolate syrup, ice cream
Instructions
1. Preheat Oven:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Prepare Pudding:
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and 2 cups of cold milk until it thickens (about 2 minutes). Set aside.
3. Layer the Ingredients:
-
Spread the pudding evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
-
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pudding — do not stir.
-
Scatter chocolate chips and chocolate chunks evenly over the top.
-
Drizzle melted butter over everything, trying to cover as much of the surface as possible.
4. Bake:
-
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is set and bubbling around the edges.
-
The center should still be slightly gooey — that’s the “death by chocolate” part.
5. Cool Slightly and Serve:
-
Let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.
-
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Tips
-
For extra richness, add a layer of hot fudge sauce before the cake mix.
-
Use dark chocolate chips or chunks for deeper flavor.
-
Can be made ahead and gently reheated before serving.
