🥬🔥 Fried Cabbage with Shrimp, Sausage & Bacon

🧾 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped

  • 4 slices bacon, chopped

  • 8 oz smoked sausage (like andouille or kielbasa), sliced

  • ½ lb shrimp, peeled & deveined

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp cajun seasoning (or more to taste)

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • Optional: red pepper flakes, for heat

  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions

🔪 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Bacon

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy.

  • Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave 1–2 tbsp of the bacon fat in the pan.

2️⃣ Sauté Sausage

  • Add sliced sausage to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides (about 4–5 minutes).

  • Remove sausage and set aside with the bacon.

3️⃣ Cook the Shrimp

  • Add shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until pink and just cooked through.

  • Remove and set aside with the bacon and sausage.

4️⃣ Sauté the Cabbage

  • In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until softened (about 3 minutes).

  • Add garlic and cook another 30 seconds.

  • Add chopped cabbage. Season with paprika, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  • Cook, stirring frequently, until cabbage is wilted and lightly browned — about 10–12 minutes.

5️⃣ Combine Everything

  • Add bacon, sausage, and shrimp back into the pan.

  • Toss everything together and cook another 2–3 minutes to heat through.

  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

  • Serve on its own as a low-carb meal

  • Or spoon it over rice, mashed potatoes, or even grits

  • Pair with cornbread or garlic toast

🔄 Variations

  • Use turkey sausage and turkey bacon for a lighter version

  • Add bell peppers or zucchini for extra veggies

  • Stir in a splash of apple cider vinegar for brightness
