Peppermint Crisp Trifle Delight

Posted on October 31, 2025 by Admin

Ooh — a Peppermint Crisp Trifle Delight is a South African classic! 🇿🇦
It’s creamy, minty, chocolatey, and dangerously easy to make — perfect for holidays or summer braais.

Here’s the best traditional version, plus a few fun twists.

🍫 Peppermint Crisp Trifle Delight

🍰 Serves:

8–10 people

⏱ Prep Time:

30 minutes (plus 2–4 hours chilling)

Ingredients

Base Layer

  • 1 packet Tennis biscuits (or any coconut tea biscuits)

  • ¼ cup melted butter (optional — for a firmer base)

Cream Layer

  • 500 ml (2 cups) fresh cream, chilled

  • 1 can (360 g) caramel treat (or dulce de leche)

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Chocolate-Mint Layer

  • 2–3 bars Peppermint Crisp chocolate, crushed (keep a little aside for topping)

Tip: Freeze the bars before crushing — it’s easier and less messy.

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (for extra richness)

  • 1 packet instant chocolate pudding (for a firmer trifle)

  • Mint liqueur or peppermint essence (for adults)

  • Fresh mint leaves or chocolate curls for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Base

  1. Lightly crush the Tennis biscuits and layer them in the bottom of a trifle or glass dish.

    • For extra flavor, drizzle with a bit of melted butter or strong coffee.

    • Chill while preparing the filling.

2. Make the Cream Mixture

  1. Whip the cream until soft peaks form.

  2. Fold in the caramel treat and vanilla essence until smooth and fluffy.

    • (If you’re using condensed milk or chocolate pudding, fold that in now too.)

3. Assemble

  1. Spread a layer of the caramel-cream mixture over the biscuit base.

  2. Sprinkle a generous amount of crushed Peppermint Crisp over it.

  3. Repeat the layers until your dish is full — ending with cream on top.

  4. Finish with a final sprinkle of Peppermint Crisp crumbs and, if you like, mint leaves or chocolate curls.

4. Chill and Serve

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2–4 hours (overnight is even better).

  • Serve cold — it’s rich, creamy, and melts beautifully.

Variations

  • 🧁 Mini Desserts: Layer in small glasses or jars for individual servings.

  • 🍫 Chocolate Base: Replace Tennis biscuits with chocolate cookies for a darker twist.

  • 🍓 Berry Version: Add a layer of strawberries or raspberries between cream layers for a fruity freshness.

  • 🍨 Frozen Peppermint Crisp Delight: Freeze for a semifreddo-style dessert.

Would you like me to give you a Christmas version of this trifle (with a festive twist like candy canes or white chocolate)?
