What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

Posted on March 3, 2026 by Admin

Normal blood pressure varies slightly with age, but for most adults, the general healthy range is considered:

Normal Blood Pressure Guidelines

Age Group Systolic (Top Number) Diastolic (Bottom Number) Notes
Children (1–12 years) Varies by age and height; generally 90–120 50–80 Pediatric norms depend on growth charts
Teenagers (13–18) 110–120 70–80 Usually approaching adult ranges
Adults (19–39) 90–119 60–79 Optimal is around 120/80
Adults (40–59) 110–129 70–79 Slightly higher systolic is common
Adults 60+ 120–139 70–79 Some guidelines allow systolic up to 140 if diastolic remains normal
Older adults (80+) 130–150 70–80 Slightly higher systolic may be tolerated to maintain organ perfusion

⚠️ Important Points

  • High blood pressure (hypertension): ≥140/90 mmHg (varies slightly by guideline)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension): <90/60 mmHg, may cause dizziness or fainting
  • Blood pressure naturally rises slightly with age due to stiffening arteries.
  • Lifestyle factors (diet, exercise, stress, salt intake) have a bigger impact than age alone.

💡 Tip: Always check blood pressure at the same time of day, sitting, with a proper cuff. Multiple readings over days give a more accurate picture than a single measurement.

I can also create a simple chart showing normal vs. high vs. low BP by age for easy reference at home. Do you want me to do that?
