Homemade Cough and Flu Syrup

You can make a simple, natural syrup at home that may help relieve cough, phlegm, and flu symptoms. While it’s not a substitute for medical treatment, it can provide soothing relief.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey
  • 2–3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon grated ginger or a pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine honey and lemon juice in a small saucepan.
  2. Gently heat on low for 5–10 minutes. Do not boil, as high heat can destroy the beneficial properties of honey.
  3. Add ginger or cinnamon if using, and stir well.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
  5. Transfer to a clean jar and store in the refrigerator.

Usage

  • Take 1–2 teaspoons up to 3 times a day.
  • Can be added to warm water or tea for easier consumption.

How It Works

  • Honey coats the throat and reduces irritation.
  • Lemon juice provides vitamin C and helps break down mucus.
  • Ginger or cinnamon adds anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Important Notes

  • Do not give honey to children under 1 year.
