Taking this could be affecting your kidneys, consult your doctor!

Posted on March 7, 2026 by Admin

Warnings like this usually refer to medications, supplements, or common over-the-counter products that can put stress on the kidneys. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Medications that can affect kidneys

  • NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) – frequent use can reduce kidney function.
  • Certain antibiotics – like aminoglycosides can be harmful in high doses.
  • Blood pressure medications – ACE inhibitors or ARBs require monitoring in some individuals.

2. Supplements and herbal products

  • High doses of vitamin C, creatine, or some herbal “detox” products may strain kidneys.
  • Certain weight-loss supplements can contain compounds toxic to kidneys.

3. Why it matters

  • Kidneys filter waste and regulate fluids and electrolytes. Chronic stress can lead to reduced kidney function, high blood pressure, or kidney disease.
  • Warning signs of kidney strain include swelling (especially in ankles/feet), fatigue, decreased urine output, or changes in urine color.

4. What to do

  • Consult your doctor before starting or continuing any medication or supplement.
  • Regular blood tests (creatinine, eGFR) can monitor kidney function.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid combining multiple nephrotoxic drugs unless prescribed.

💡 Tip: Even common pain relievers like ibuprofen, when overused, can silently harm your kidneys over time.

I can also make a list of everyday things that silently affect kidney health so you know what to watch out for.
