Vinegar is the key to whiter whites and softer towels, but most use it wrong. Here’s the right way to use it.

Vinegar is a laundry powerhouse—it naturally whitens whites, softens fabrics, and helps remove odors—but using it incorrectly can leave clothes smelling sour or even damage some fabrics. Here’s how to use it the right way:

1. For whiter whites

  • Add ½–1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle of your washing machine.
  • Vinegar helps break down detergent residue and brighten whites without harsh chemicals.
  • Avoid pouring vinegar directly onto clothes—always dilute it in water or the rinse cycle.

2. For softer towels

  • Use ½ cup vinegar instead of fabric softener in the rinse cycle.
  • It loosens fibers and removes detergent buildup that makes towels stiff.
  • Optional: After the vinegar rinse, run a short cold water rinse to remove the vinegar smell.

3. Extra tips

  • Don’t mix vinegar with bleach—this creates toxic fumes.
  • Use vinegar on colorfast fabrics only to avoid fading.
  • For really stubborn odors (like sweaty gym clothes), soak in 1 cup vinegar + 1 gallon warm water for 30 minutes before washing.

✅ Result: Whites that pop, towels that feel soft, and laundry that smells fresh—without expensive chemicals.
