What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

Posted on March 30, 2026 by Admin

Blood pressure naturally changes with age, but there are general ranges considered “normal”. Keep in mind that individual health, fitness, and medical conditions can affect these numbers, and your doctor may recommend different targets.

🩺 Normal Blood Pressure by Age

Blood pressure is measured as systolic / diastolic (mmHg):

  • Systolic (top number): pressure when the heart beats
  • Diastolic (bottom number): pressure when the heart rests between beats

👶 Children & Teens

  • 1–5 years: ~95–105 / 60–70
  • 6–13 years: ~105–115 / 65–75
  • 14–19 years: ~110–120 / 70–80

🧑 Adults

  • 20–29 years: ~120 / 80
  • 30–39 years: ~122 / 80
  • 40–49 years: ~124 / 82
  • 50–59 years: ~126 / 84
  • 60–69 years: ~130 / 85

👵 Seniors (70+)

  • ~135 / 85 is often considered acceptable
  • Slightly higher systolic numbers can be normal with aging

⚠️ Important Notes

  1. Hypertension: ≥140 / 90 mmHg (risk factor for heart disease, stroke)
  2. Hypotension: ≤90 / 60 mmHg (may cause dizziness or fainting)
  3. Lifestyle matters: diet, exercise, stress, and sleep significantly affect blood pressure
  4. Regular monitoring is key, especially if you’re over 40 or have risk factors

💡 Tips for Healthy Blood Pressure

  • Reduce salt intake
  • Stay physically active
  • Maintain healthy weight
  • Limit alcohol and avoid smoking
  • Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
