🍝 Ultimate Baked Meatball & Macaroni Casserole

Ingredients (Serves 6)

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or half beef, half pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

For the Casserole:

  • 3 cups cooked macaroni (elbow or small pasta)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian herbs
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Meatballs

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  4. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until meatballs are cooked through.

2️⃣ Prepare the Macaroni

  1. Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) if not already on.

3️⃣ Assemble the Casserole

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked macaroni + marinara sauce.
  2. Gently fold in meatballs.
  3. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
  5. Sprinkle oregano or Italian herbs over the cheese.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
  • Optional: Broil for 2–3 minutes at the end for extra crusty cheese.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley

✅ Tips for Extra Flavor

  • Add sautéed onions, mushrooms, or bell peppers to the pasta mixture.
  • Use mozzarella + cheddar blend for a richer flavor.
  • For a creamier casserole, stir 1/2 cup ricotta or cream cheese into the pasta before baking.

This dish is comfort food at its best — cheesy, meaty, and satisfying. Perfect for leftovers too!

If you want, I can also make a lighter, healthier version that keeps the flavor but reduces calories and fat. Do you want me to do that?
