That claim is misleading.
Most “scratched glasses hacks” you see online (toothpaste, baking soda, oils, wax, etc.) do not actually remove scratches from eyeglass lenses. At best, they temporarily fill in tiny marks so they look less visible—but the scratch is still there, and optical quality can get worse.
What actually happens:
- Plastic lenses (most common): Scratches are usually in the hard coating. Once that coating is damaged, it can’t be restored.
- Glass lenses (rare today): Very minor surface marks can sometimes be polished by professionals, but DIY methods can distort vision.
- Coated lenses (anti-glare, UV, etc.): Home remedies often damage the coating further, making glare worse.
What you should do instead:
- If scratches are light → sometimes replacement is unnecessary, just live with it.
- If they affect vision → replace the lenses (usually cheaper than you think).
- If under warranty → many optical shops will replace them at reduced cost.
Bottom line:
There’s no safe “instant fix” that truly removes scratches. If a video promises that, it’s either cosmetic masking or misinformation.
If you want, tell me your lens type and scratch level—I can suggest whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
