People with this ear hole have… See more

Posted on April 14, 2026 by Admin

You’re probably referring to a small “ear hole” or tiny dimple near the front of the ear, usually called a preauricular pit (or preauricular sinus).

There’s a lot of viral posts that say things like “people with this ear hole have special traits…” but here’s the real, medical explanation:

A preauricular pit is a congenital (born-with-it) condition where a tiny opening forms near the outer ear during early development in the womb. It’s actually a small tract under the skin and is usually harmless.

What it really means

  • It is genetic, meaning it can run in families
  • It is fairly common in some populations
  • Most people never notice any problem with it
  • Sometimes it can get infected or swollen, but that’s not common

What it does NOT mean

  • It does not indicate special personality traits or abilities
  • It is not linked to intelligence, luck, or “special powers”
  • Viral claims about it are just internet myths

When to be careful

If it becomes:

  • painful
  • red or swollen
  • leaking fluid or pus

…it should be checked by a doctor.

If you want, I can explain why these myths about ear shapes go viral so often.
