Peace Lily

Posted on April 18, 2026 by Admin

The peace lily is a popular indoor houseplant known for its elegant white flowers and air-purifying qualities.

It usually refers to Spathiphyllum.

🌿 What it looks like

  • Dark green, glossy leaves
  • White “flower” structures (actually a modified leaf called a spathe)
  • Grows well in pots indoors

🌱 Basic care

💡 Light

  • Prefers low to medium indirect light
  • Can tolerate shade better than many plants
  • Too much direct sun can burn leaves

💧 Water

  • Likes consistently moist soil
  • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
  • Drooping leaves usually mean it’s thirsty

🌡️ Temperature

  • Best in normal room temperatures (18–27°C / 65–80°F)
  • Avoid cold drafts

🌬️ Humidity

  • Enjoys moderate to high humidity
  • Bathrooms or kitchens are often ideal

🌸 Flowering tips

To encourage blooms:

  • Provide brighter indirect light
  • Feed lightly with balanced fertilizer during growing season
  • Avoid overwatering or underwatering

⚠️ Common problems

  • Yellow leaves → overwatering
  • Brown tips → dry air or mineral buildup
  • No flowers → low light or lack of nutrients

☠️ Safety note

Spathiphyllum is toxic if eaten by pets (cats and dogs) due to calcium oxalate crystals.

🧾 Bottom line

Peace lilies are easy, low-maintenance indoor plants that thrive in indirect light and regular watering, making them great for beginners.
