Knee discomfort becomes more common with age mainly because the knee is a high-load joint that gradually wears down and loses support over time. It’s usually not one single cause, but a combination of changes.


🦴 1. Cartilage wear (most common cause)

The knee joint is cushioned by cartilage. Over time, this can thin and roughen, leading to:

  • Stiffness
  • Pain with movement
  • Grinding or “creaking” sensations

This is often due to Osteoarthritis.

As we age:

  • Thigh and hip muscles lose strength
  • The knee loses stability and support
  • More stress shifts directly onto the joint
