Mix cloves with petroleum jelly: a secret no one will ever tell you. Thank me later.

Posted on April 22, 2026 by Admin

That “secret” isn’t actually a known or recommended skincare practice, and it can be risky.

Cloves contain eugenol, a strong compound used in dentistry and essential oils, but it can also be irritating or even cause chemical burns or allergic reactions when applied to skin—especially in concentrated or homemade mixtures. Petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) is generally safe as a barrier moisturizer, but mixing it with irritants doesn’t neutralize them; it just traps them against the skin longer.

So combining the two can actually increase skin exposure to a potential irritant, not make it safer or more effective.

If you’re thinking of it for things like acne, dark spots, or pain relief, there are safer, evidence-based options depending on what you’re trying to treat. Tell me what you were aiming for, and I can suggest something that actually works without risking skin damage.
