4 Ways to Erase Age Spots with Baking Soda for Younger, More Even Skin

Posted on April 30, 2026 by Admin

Baking soda is sometimes used in DIY skincare, but it’s worth being cautious: it’s quite alkaline and can disrupt your skin’s natural barrier, which may actually make dark spots worse if overused. If you still want to try it, use it gently and sparingly.

Here are 4 common (but cautious) ways people use baking soda for age spots:

1. Baking soda + water paste (gentle exfoliation)

Mix:

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • A few drops of water (to form a thin paste)

How to use:

  • Apply only on the dark spots (not full face)
  • Leave for 1–2 minutes max
  • Rinse with lukewarm water

Why people try it:
It works as a mild exfoliant to remove dead skin cells.

⚠️ Don’t scrub—this can irritate skin and worsen pigmentation.

2. Baking soda + honey (soothing mask)

Mix:

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey

How to use:

  • Apply for 5–10 minutes
  • Rinse gently

Why it’s used:
Honey helps reduce irritation and adds moisture while baking soda exfoliates lightly.

3. Baking soda + lemon juice (strong spot treatment)

Mix:

  • A pinch of baking soda
  • A few drops of lemon juice

How to use:

  • Dab only on spots for 1–2 minutes
  • Wash off immediately

⚠️ Warning:
Lemon juice can make skin more sensitive to sunlight and may cause irritation or darkening if misused. Always avoid sun exposure afterward.

4. Baking soda + aloe vera gel (calming blend)

Mix:

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1–2 teaspoons aloe vera gel

How to use:

  • Apply for 10 minutes
  • Rinse off

Why it’s used:
Aloe helps calm irritation while baking soda lightly exfoliates.

Important safety notes

  • Use only 1–2 times per week maximum
  • Always do a patch test first
  • Stop immediately if you feel burning or redness
  • Always use sunscreen afterward—sun exposure is the biggest trigger for age spots

Reality check (important)

Age spots are mostly caused by sun damage and usually respond better to:

  • sunscreen (most important)
  • vitamin C serums
  • retinoids
  • dermatologist treatments (like chemical peels or laser)

Baking soda is not a proven treatment—it’s more of a home exfoliation option, and overuse can backfire.
