It might be lice, but a “bug found in hair” isn’t automatically that.
A few possibilities:
- Head lice: tiny (about sesame seed size), grayish/tan insects that move slowly. You’ll often also see eggs (nits) stuck firmly to hair shafts near the scalp—they look like tiny white/yellow specks that don’t flick off easily.
- Fleas: usually jump quickly and don’t live in hair long-term (more common from pets).
- Random insect: sometimes a stray bug just gets into hair and doesn’t indicate anything ongoing.
A quick way to check:
- Part the hair close to the scalp (especially behind ears and nape of neck).
- Look for moving tiny insects or eggs glued to hair strands.
- If it’s just a single bug and nothing else, it may not be lice.
If it is lice, it’s annoying but very common and easily treatable with pharmacy shampoos and combing. No danger, just persistent if ignored.
If you can, describe what it looked like (size, color, movement, where you found it), and I can help you narrow it down more accurately.
