Fertilize the orchid so that it blooms profusely and for a long time!

Posted on March 11, 2026 by Admin

To get your orchid to bloom profusely and last longer, proper fertilization is key, along with a few care tips. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Choose the Right Fertilizer

  • Balanced fertilizer (20-20-20): Supports general growth.
  • Bloom-boost fertilizer (high phosphorus, e.g., 10-30-20): Encourages flowering.
  • Water-soluble fertilizers are ideal for orchids.

2. Fertilizing Schedule

  • During active growth (spring–summer): Fertilize every 2 weeks, using half to quarter strength of the recommended dose.
  • During dormant period (fall–winter): Fertilize once a month or skip, depending on orchid type.

3. How to Apply

  • Water first, then fertilize to avoid root burn.
  • Apply to the roots and potting medium, not directly on leaves.
  • For epiphytic orchids (like Phalaenopsis), water until it runs out the bottom, then apply fertilizer.

4. Additional Tips for Long-Lasting Blooms

  • Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sun that can scorch leaves.
  • Humidity: Maintain 50–70% humidity; use a humidity tray if needed.
  • Temperature: A slight day-night temperature difference encourages flowering.
  • Pruning: Remove spent flowers and yellowed leaves to redirect energy to blooms.

💡 Extra Hack: A weekly foliar spray of very diluted bloom fertilizer can sometimes encourage more frequent flowering.

I can also make a simple month-by-month orchid fertilization and care schedule to help your orchid bloom bigger and longer. Do you want me to create that?
