This is actually a bathroom drain biofilm buildup, not an object or creature.
What you’re seeing is a mix of:
- Soap scum + shampoo/conditioner residue
- Hair strands
- Mold/fungal growth and bacteria
- Possibly some mineral deposits from hard water
The “spiky legs” look is just hair and slime forming radial clusters as it grows outward in a drain gap or tile seam. The glossy center is the wet biofilm, and the beige spikes are hardened strands of hair coated in residue.
It often forms:
- around shower drain edges
- in corner grout lines
- where water sits but doesn’t fully flush away
It can look weirdly organic because biofilm is a living microbial layer.
Is it dangerous?
Usually not immediately dangerous, but it is unhygienic. It can harbor bacteria and mold, and it’s a sign that the area needs a deep clean.
What to do
- Pull it out (paper towel or gloves)
- Scrub the area with a bleach-based bathroom cleaner or hydrogen peroxide
- Rinse thoroughly and keep it dry afterward
- Check the drain for hair buildup underneath
So no mystery creature or anything odd happening—just a pretty dramatic piece of bathroom grime that happened to grow in a symmetrical way.
