I got my first slow cooker last week, and today my roommate thought it was a good idea to heat up—you guess what—in it. This is what happened. Apparently, she didn’t know that you cannot put anything in the slow cooker!

Now I’m curious 😅 — what did she put in it?

Because normally you absolutely do put things in a slow cooker (that’s the whole point). You cook food like soups, stews, chili, pulled chicken, etc. in it. So the statement “you cannot put anything in the slow cooker” sounds like there’s a specific story behind it.

A few things that do cause disasters in slow cookers:

  • Putting it on the stove burner (the bottom melts) 🔥
  • Putting the ceramic insert directly on a flame or stovetop
  • Heating something sealed (like a closed can or jar → it can explode) 💥
  • Running it completely empty for a long time
  • Putting plastic or packaging inside

But normal food inside the ceramic pot is totally fine.

So… what exactly did she try to heat up in it? I have a feeling this is going to be a good story 😂
